Our ecosystem

Making renewable mobility accessible to everyone in Switzerland – this is the AMAG Group’s long-term vision. To achieve this objective, it is essential that the entire AMAG ecosystem works in sync. Electric vehicle sales are only one part of this ecosystem. To achieve the goal of renewable mobility, steps must be taken to ensure low-emission production and the recycling of materials throughout the supply chain, as well as to offer mobility options that are tailored to every need.

The Volkswagen Group’s decision to open gigafactories in Europe to produce battery cells will not only shorten supply chains, but will also guarantee high-quality and sustainable production. The Volkswagen Group has set itself clear targets for decarbonisation in the supply chain, which the AMAG Group is also implementing in Switzerland.

One aspect that is just as important as environmentally friendly battery production is recycling at the end of the battery life cycle. Electric car batteries contain a large number of valuable materials that can be recycled. The AMAG Group is also collaborating with the Volkswagen Group in this area and is focusing on its recycling solutions. One example is our partnership with the battery company PowerCo in Salzgitter, Germany.

Going forward, a recycling rate of more than 90% for raw materials such as lithium, nickel, manganese and cobalt is within the realm of possibility. Thanks to the emerging circular economy for electric vehicles – from the extraction of the materials to production, delivery and recycling – greenhouse gas emissions can be drastically reduced.

In addition to low-emission production, delivery and recycling, another key pillar of renewable mobility is running electric cars in an environmentally friendly way.

The ongoing expansion of photovoltaic systems by Helion Energy AG will not only ensure a supply of sustainable solar power for the AMAG Group’s plants, but will also give an increasing number of customers access to this sort of power in the long term. With the steady expansion of solar modules for its own operations, companies, fleet and private customers, the AMAG Group has established itself as a strong and active driving force behind the energy transition in Switzerland. This allows the AMAG Group to combine renewable energy production with sustainable mobility solutions. AMAG is equally committed to expanding the charging infrastructure. With the Charge:ON charging card, AMAG offers its customers access to public charging points in Switzerland and the EU.

The decarbonisation of mobility is not, however, limited to the conventional sale and maintenance of electric vehicles, but also includes other key areas of individual mobility. AMAG’s mobility offerings range from services such as subscription models and shared mobility to the financing of e-bikes. The AMAG Group is also making an important contribution to the decarbonisation of Swiss mobility by investing in the development and production of alternative fuels by Synhelion and by supporting the testing of these synfuels.

The AMAG Group will achieve its overarching goal of broad accessibility to renewable mobility through intensive cooperation with the Volkswagen Group, but also with its own approaches and investments in promising sustainable solutions and partnerships with Swiss companies.

The desire to make it as easy as possible for customers to switch to renewable mobility is at the centre of these endeavours.

After all, renewable mobility should not just benefit the environment, but should also bring benefits for people.
